When the rain comes in from the South, the beacons wander closer to Brecon

Festival Season

Posted September 4, 2015 at 12:01 pm

The Festival Season is progressing with frightening rapidity… It all started with the Royal Welsh Show back in July, and has been more or less non-stop since!

August saw us in the Town Centre (and many of the venues) for the Brecon Jazz Festival, which we were proud to be a sponsor of, as well at CAMRA’s Great British Beer Festival in London. GBBF also hosts the annual Champion Beer of Britain awards, and we had two beers in the finals : Three Beacons was in the Bitters Class and Gold Beacons made the final of the Champion Bottled Beer of Britain – whilst the overall trophy headed to Wales for the first time, alas, it wasn’t to Brecon! However, we are extremely proud to have had two of our beers reach the finals, against a field of literally tens of thousands of other beers…

Then followed the Green Man Festival at Glan Usk – a fabulous music event featuring a host of Welsh talent, food and drink – in fact over 120 different Welsh Beers and Ciders were available over the bars! A great effort from the Green Man bars team (against the weather as well!), and a real tribute to the growing prized perception of Welsh drinks.

The Bank Holiday weekend saw us all at the first ever Cardiff Brewfest – organised by Tiny Rebel and Otley breweries, this was a fabulous event featuring 25 craft brewers from around the UK and a mouth-watering selection of street food. The atmosphere was superb, and clearly a huge amount of effort had gone into making this work – well done and many thanks to Brad, Nick and all the team for this. Hopefully we’ll be back with the Orange bar (and the hats) next year!

Next weekend we’ll be at Ludlow Food Festival, inside the splendid walls of Ludlow Castle – we’ll be in our usual spot inside the Inner Bailey – come and join us for a beer or two…

Buster will also be at the Green Man’s Courtyard Monster Beer Festival in Lewis Cubit square at London’s Kings Cross. This is a free to enter event showcasing some of the best bits of the Green Man Festival and a huge selection of Welsh Beers and Ciders. Buster is also giving a couple of talks over the weekend, so no heckling please! More details at http://courtyard.greenman.net/. See you there!

The weekend of 19th and 20th September will find us all at Abergavenny Food Festival, located in the Lower Brewery Yard, behind the Market Hall – late night opening for the first time this year on the Saturday night – should be a great party!

The Season will round off then with the Monmouthshire Food Festival at Caldicot Castle over the weekend of the 10th and 11th October – by then we should have the full range of Bottled beers up and running – you’ll have to come and visit us there to find out if we have!
