When the rain comes in from the South, the beacons wander closer to Brecon

The postie has just been, and delivered a large bag of Jerky, fresh from Martin’s Jerked Meats of Tonypandy. Even better, this is a large bag of beef that has been marinaded in Gold Beacons with a hint of garlic and herbs – absolutely gorgeous!

Contact Martin via www.martinsjerkedmeat.com to see if he’s got any left! [There were three bas going free on the Facebook page – that shows you’ve got keep in touch!]

Many thanks Martin, and hope you an produce more of this!

Had a very enjoyable evening at the City Arms in Cardiff last night, doing a Meet the Brewer event – a good crowd turned out, asked lots of good questions and managed not to throw anything at me! Really good to see what Chris and his team have achieved there, with some cracking beers on the bar.

Was also great to finally get a taste of the new Genesis (Genesis 1:ii – The Prophets Porter) from a Handpump, and see how it has matured since the last sampling session at Christmas. Really impressed – very smooth, with a definite fruity sweetness coming through, and way, way too drinkable for a 5.6%er! Lots of requests for more…

Will be at the Yr Hen Dderwen in Carmarthen tomorrow evening for another Meet the Brewer, for St David’s Day. Hope to see lots of you there…

Tanya Walker – Arts Council funded new work premier of ‘Breaking The FearWall’: Saturday 10th March 2012:  7pm:  Brecon Cathedral

I am very excited to be inviting you all to the premier of’ Breaking the FearWall’, after successfully securing a grant from the Arts Council of Wales, as well a further support by Brecon Town Council and Brecon Brewing in 2011! It is being delivered in partnership with Theatr Brycheiniog.

The performance will be a 50 minute premier of 9/10 interconnected songs, featuring harmonies sung by the 36 member Brecon Cathedral Choir, a contemporary acoustic rock ensemble, interconnected through adobe live voice sampling and film imagery created by an exciting new film maker from the South Wales Valleys. The project will feature songs that have been three years in the making……

‘ Exciting, enchanting, piano driven songs……… hauntingly beautiful vocals performed by award winning singer songwriter – Original, sumptuous musical arrangements’

If you would like to hear material, old and new, you can listen at www.tanyawalker.bandcamp.com and also I invite you to ‘like’ the Breaking The FearWall event via facebook and you will then receive film tasters leading up to the event.

A splendid morning talking to Radio Wales – should be broadcast next weekend… The Mon & Brec Canal is 200 years old today!

In other news, first tasting of the Alleycat’s Amber Ale – nom nom nom nom nom nom… You’re still going to have to go to Taiwan to try some though! Sorry!

In better news – will be at the Brecon Farmers Market tomorrow morning, with a good selection of beers in minicasks. There’s only one Six Beacons, so if you want that, you’d better be early. We’ll also have a couple of minicasks of Red Beacons, which on current form (the pint next to me) is absolutely lovely!

On the production front, tested the new cask washing area this afternoon… all looks dry in the important areas, (eg, under Duncan’s desk), so things looking up.

Have a good weekend.

9 ii 12 – Going to need more than 6 Beacons

Posted February 9, 2012 at 12:12 pm

Delighted to say that today sees the third brew of Six Beacons going through the kit – it seems that the 240 firkins already produced just isn’t enough! Many thanks to you all for your support.

Cm’on Wales Indeed!

Mind you, bit of a conflict of interest this weekend – being happy Scots, Duncan and I will be suitably be-kilted whilst at the Millennium Stadium on Sunday, with plenty of Welsh company, including the Welsh Dragon, who will no doubt be pointing and laughing should Wales continue their good form!

Apologies for the lack of posts recently – we’ll try to keep up more in the future!

8 ii 12 – Export time

Posted February 9, 2012 at 11:49 am

There we go – 800 cases (give or take a few) of our Alleycats Amber Ale now loaded into a container and on their way to Taiwan…

Not bad for a first export order?!

Now, back to normal…

25 i 12 – Guest Brewer time…

Posted February 9, 2012 at 11:41 am

Andy Mitchell of Norfolk’s Spectrum Brewery came to play today, making lots of lovely Gold (Beacons, that is!)…

Hoping to get Andy back at some stage for a Genesis project collaboration – watch this space!

24 i 12 – Brewing Again!

Posted February 9, 2012 at 11:28 am

First Brew (Again!) looking a tad lively – that’s probably the result of fitting 32Bbl into a 20Bbl brewkit!

This one is the first batch of Alleycats Amber Ale, which will be our first bottled beer – the bad news is that it is only available in Taiwan!

UK bottles coming soon – we promise…
